Istook1164-Thanksgiving

from Istook Live Whole Show Sample by info@Istook.com

Thanksgiving is uniquely special in America. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook. America is almost alone in celebrating Thanksgiving. Canada has Thanksgiving Day in October. The Jewish faith has its Feast of Tabernacles for returning blessings. Elsewhere, people celebrate a bountiful harvest--but that is not the same as Thanksgiving. Gratitude to God is the key. It's easy to focus on our problems or to wish we had the same blessings as someone else. Politicians often stir up jealousy because they know it is a powerful and divisive force. Only one person at a time can be the richest man in the world, meaning the rest of us always have grounds for jealousy. Souls are destroyed if we spend time coveting what others have and we don't. But souls are nourished by humbly expressing thanks to God. Thanksgiving Day is a great day to be an American. Just like every other day is also. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook.

Istook1163-Getting Ready for Thanksgiving

from Istook Live Whole Show Sample by info@Istook.com

It's time to prepare for Thanksgiving. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook. Getting ready for Thanksgiving brings to mind the preparations of a feast-the planning ahead for how long it will take to cook a turkey, to set a special table, and get a multitude of foods organized to be ready at the same time, all in the midst of a crowd. Getting ready for Thanksgiving means busy roads, highways and airports as we use the four-day weekend to visit family and friends far away. But getting ready for Thanksgiving also means stopping everything: to pause and reflect. It's not called the Day of Feasting. It's a time to reflect that America has been blessed richly by God, more so than any other nation. It's time to look for the good - and be grateful for it. We often say God bless America. At Thanksgiving, it's our time to bless God. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook.

Istook1161-You Don't Have to Be Informed to Vote

from Istook Live Whole Show Sample by info@Istook.com

It's good for voters to be informed--but it's not required. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook. Not all voters study the issues, watch debates, and try to be informed, responsible voters. Turnout climbed this year for "low information voters". This group often does not vote, but the Obama campaign focused on winning them over and getting them to the polls. These may vote by feel, or by emotion, to go along with their friends, or maybe they like your necktie. It reminds me of bettors who pick a race horse because they like its name, or its number, or the silks that the jockey wears. They may ignore news but watch The View, The Tonight Show, The Daily Show, or Entertainment Tonight. And President Obama made the rounds of TV shows like these. You don't have to be well-informed to cast your vote. You just have to show up. And they did. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook.

SERMON: The Twilight Rage - Soft Porn for Girls? - The Attraction of Cannibalism

from Generations Radio - SermonAudio.com

A new MP3 sermon from Generations Radio is now available on SermonAudio.com with the following details:

Title: The Twilight Rage - Soft Porn for Girls? - The Attraction of Cannibalism
Subtitle: The Attraction of Cannibalism
Speaker: Kevin Swanson
Broadcaster: Generations Radio
Event: Current Events
Date: 11/23/2012
Length: 28 min. (64kbps)

Overview: Twilight hits the Box Office, big time, one more time. Of the 10 most popular movies (based on first-week box office receipts), three belong to the Twilight series. The girls are silly about it. This cannibal/Vampire rage has got kids chewing on each other and generally violating God's laws. Mark Driscoll is concerned. He calls it 'porn for girls'. And it's leading to a rise in 'pure paganism'. So does God law define paganism or not? That's the question that Kevin Swanson poses for the post-modern craziness. Is there such a thing as good paganism? White witchcraft? Soft cannibalism?

Istook1162-Racism and Sexism Get Exaggerated by the Left

from Istook Live Whole Show Sample by info@Istook.com

Racism and sexism are real, but they're being exaggerated for political purposes. From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook. We should focus on the content of character, not the color of skin. However, honest criticism of a black female, UN Ambassador Susan Rice, is being denounced as prejudice. None of us should tolerate racism or sexism. But it's harder to combat the real thing when we hear so many false claims. Nobody gets immunity from criticism because they're a minority. Of course, women are the majority in population, although a minority in political office. Just the same, the head of the Democrat Party is bragging that white men are now the minority among Democrats in Congress. The left seems to say that blacks should vote only for blacks, and women only vote for women. The only exception allowed would be a vote for some other liberal Democrat. If you ask me, they're not denouncing prejudice. They're promoting it. .From The Heritage Foundation, I'm Ernest Istook.

Philadelphia: No Love for the Homeless

Last March, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter outlawed serving meals to the homeless in city parks, citing health concerns as the primary reason for the ban. Chosen 300, a private charity with a mission to serve the city's homeless, is in the midst of a lawsuit against the ban. They insist that the new regulations are harmful to the homeless community. "These laws are really designed to eliminate people out of plain view so that we can have this idea that the city doesn't have a homeless problem," said Chosen 300 executive director Brian Jenkins. The ACLU, which sued and won a temporary injunction against the new law, said the real reason for the ban is to protect the city's image as a tourist destination. The federal lawsuit will be brought to trial early next year and both the city and Chosen 300 are working to resolve the standoff out of court. About 2 minutes. Shot by Joshua Swain. 3 Reasons to Kill The Dept. of Homeland Security: It's Unnecessary, Inefficient, & Expensive.

Go to reason.com for links and documentation to all claims - and for more videos! Sunday, November 25, 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which pulled together nearly two dozen federal agencies and departments under the control of new, single entity. Its responsibilities include running the US Border Patrol, the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, and FEMA. DHS is the third biggest cabinet agency, but are we better off because of its existence? Here are three reasons to get rid of DHS. 1. It's unnecessary. In the months immediately following September 11 attacks in 2001, President George W. Bush initially resisted calls to create a new high-level bureaucracy that would be laid on top of current activities. He was right to recognize that coordinating existing agencies would have been smarter and better. Unfortunately, he caved in to pressure to create a massive new department. 2. It's ineffective. To read the titles of Government Accountability Office (GAO) analyses of Homeland Security is to be reminded constantly that DHS is never quite on top of its game. Recent reports include "DHS Requires More Disciplined Investment Management to Help Meet Mission Needs," "DHS Needs Better Project Information and Coordination Among Four Overlapping Grant Programs," and "Agriculture Inspection Program Has Made Some Improvements, But Management Challenges Persist." 3. It's expensive. Last year, Homeland Security spent a whopping ...

JIHAN HAFIZ, PRESS TV CORRESPONDENT: As the death toll mounts in Gaza and as global outrage continues to dominate massive protests around the world, the leaders of the United States Congress and the Bush administration continue to back Israel's war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

GEORGE W. BUSH, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I understand Israel's desire to protect itself.

HAFIZ: But one voice on Capitol Hill has broken from the status quo. Republican Congressman Ron Paul recently called the onslaught in Gaza an atrocious massacre.

"We don't have the right to subordinate other people to our ends or treat them as objects for our uses," says Roderick Long, professor of philosophy at Auburn University and President of the Molinari Institute. Norquist Slams Tax Pledge Defector Saxby Chambliss

from Ron Paul 2012 | Sound Money, Peace and Liberty | Blog by fonzdrew

http://youtu.be/U--CfxMPYLU

The Hill: Grover Norquist on Friday responded to criticism from GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss (Ga.) who suggested this week that he was ready to ditch the influential activist’s anti-tax pledge.

“Senator Chambliss promised the people of Georgia he would go to Washington and reform government rather than raise taxes to pay for bigger government. He made that commitment in writing to the people of Georgia,” said Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, in a statement.

"if he plans to vote for higher taxes to pay for Obama-sized government he should address the people of Georgia and let them know that he plans to break his promise to them,” he added.

Norquist’s response was sparked by an interview Chambliss gave to a local Georgia station on Thursday where the senator said “I care more about my country than I do about a 20-year-old pledge.”

Fixing Chicago's Traffic Gridlock: Reason's Adrian Moore and Sam Staley

Earlier this year, the Reason Foundation's Adrian Moore and Sam Staley, in partnership with The Union League Club of Chicago Public Affairs and its Transportation Subcommittee, outlined a market-based plan to improve Chicago's traffic woes. Through a combination of user fees, innovative financing, and state-of-the-art electronic tolling, the pair found Chicagoans could greatly reduce the hours they currently spend in traffic without raising taxes. Moore and Staley presented their finding during a July 19, 2012 forum. 30 minutes. Edited by Joshua Swain. The Future of Financing the Arts: An Interview with Adam Huttler of Fractured Atlas

"The NEA's [National Endowment for the Arts] budget, did it go up or down this year? It's the simplest, most glaring metric out there, and it's a little reductionist," says Adam Huttler, the founder and executive director of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit organization that provides financial, logistical, and technological support for arts and culture. Earlier this year, Huttler participated in a debate at The Economist, where he argued, "We must also abandon the notion that a strong arts policy begins and ends with public funding." Huttler spoke with Reason TV's Kennedy about how tax deductions for donations to the arts "dwarfs" NEA funding, and how "scrappy, DIY (do-it-yourself)" arts organizations are "breaking away from a lot of the old models of funding and support" with relatively new methods like crowdfunding and fiscal sponsorship.
